Aircraft detailing at San Jose (KSJC).

KSJC is a business aviation field with corporate flight departments, charter operators and managed aircraft. Appearance standards there are set by the passengers in the back, not by the owner walking around the airplane on a Saturday.

Detailing at KSJC

Corporate standards, on the ramp.

San Jose's general aviation side is served by full-service FBOs including Signature and Atlantic Aviation, and the based population skews heavily toward turbine aircraft: light and midsize jets, managed aircraft under Part 135, and corporate flight departments running scheduled trips. That changes what detailing means. On an owner-flown piston, a detail is about how the airplane looks. On a KSJC jet, it is about whether the aircraft is presentable to a client with no notice.

Exhaust soot is the recurring job

The defining maintenance-appearance problem on turbine aircraft is exhaust staining down the aft fuselage and empennage. It builds after every leg, it is acidic, and left alone it bonds to the paint and eventually needs machine correction rather than washing. On a coated aircraft it wipes off. On an uncoated one it does not. That single difference is why ceramic coating pays for itself faster on a high-utilization jet than on anything else we work on.

Turnarounds between trips

We schedule around the flying calendar, including early mornings, evenings and the gap between an arrival and the next departure. If the aircraft is going out in the morning we plan the scope to fit the window rather than starting work we cannot finish. Where a flight department or management company needs documentation, we provide before and after photographs of the work.

What a jet detail includes

Full exterior wash including belly and nacelles, leading edge and windscreen work, degrease of gear, wheel wells and brakes, brightwork where fitted, and cabin work covering leather, carpet, tables, galley and lavatory. Correction-grade work adds clay decontamination, machine polish and a durable sealant or coating. See package structure by aircraft size.

Ramp access and badging

KSJC is a Class C commercial field, so ramp access runs through your FBO or flight department with escort or badging as required. We coordinate that in advance rather than showing up and hoping. Tell us who handles your aircraft and we will arrange it directly with them.

Common Questions

San Jose questions.

Can you work airside at San Jose?

Yes, with access coordinated through your FBO, hangar operator or flight department. Because KSJC is a commercial service airport, that arrangement has to be made before the visit rather than on the day.

How long does a business jet detail take?

A wash on a light or midsize jet is typically a single day. A full detail with interior is usually one to two days. Correction and ceramic coating work needs two to three days including cure time before the aircraft flies or gets wet.

Do you remove exhaust staining?

Yes. Fresh staining comes off in the wash and degrease stage. Staining that has been baked on for a long time may need machine correction, which we will tell you after seeing the aircraft rather than after starting.

Do you provide documentation for a management company?

Yes. We photograph the aircraft before and after and can supply a written scope for the aircraft file.
