Inside The Aircraft

Aircraft interior detailing, Bay Area.

The exterior is what other people see. The interior is what you sit in every time you fly, and it is almost always the part of the airplane that has been let go the longest. We come to the aircraft, anywhere in the Bay Area.

What Gets Done

The part you actually live in.

Aircraft interiors accumulate in a specific order. Dust and grit work into the carpet and seat seams. Hand oils build on the yoke, throttle quadrant, trim wheel and door handles. Leather dries out and starts to crack at the bolsters. Headliners go grey. Windows pick up a haze that owners assume is age and is usually residue from the wrong cleaner. Then there is the smell, which is almost never one thing and almost always fixable.

None of that is difficult work. It is careful work, and the reason it gets skipped is that doing it properly around avionics, plexiglass and forty-year-old plastics requires knowing what not to use.

The Process

How the work runs.

Dry removal first

Full vacuum including under seats, seat tracks, seat pans and the areas most people cannot reach. Loose grit comes out before anything wet goes in, because wet grit becomes ground-in grit.

Surfaces and touch points

Panel, glareshield, yoke, throttle quadrant, switches, trim wheel, sidewalls, door frames and seat frames. Damp application to the cloth, never sprayed toward the panel, and nothing that can run into an instrument or a breaker.

Leather, fabric and carpet

Leather cleaned and conditioned before it cracks. Fabric and carpet spot treated and extracted where needed, then dried properly rather than left damp in a closed airframe.

Glass and finish

Acrylic-safe windscreen and window cleaning, headliner attention, and a final pass on everything you touch on the walkaround and in the seat.

What we will not use, and why

No ammonia-based glass cleaner anywhere near the aircraft. Ammonia crazes acrylic windscreens and side windows, and crazing is permanent. Windscreens get an acrylic-safe cleaner and clean dedicated towels only.

No liquid sprayed toward the instrument panel, breaker panel or avionics stack. Product goes onto the applicator, then onto the surface. No solvent-heavy cleaners on old plastics, which go brittle and chalky, and no silicone dressings that leave a slick film on a yoke or a glare on the glareshield.

Odor

Cabin smell is usually a combination of old carpet, a soaked seat cushion, mildew in an area that has been damp, and years of everything else. We treat the source rather than covering it. Where the smell is coming from a fuel or oil leak, that is a maintenance item and we will say so rather than perfume over it.

Before you sell

A buyer decides how they feel about an airplane in the first thirty seconds in the seat. Interior work is the highest-return pre-sale spend on most aircraft, well ahead of anything cosmetic on the outside. Pair it with an exterior detail and, if the paint warrants it, paint correction.

Shared and club aircraft

On a partnership or club airplane, the interior is nobody's job by default and it shows. A recurring interior schedule solves it permanently and splits to very little per partner. Full interior work is included in our Premium and Executive tiers. See packages.

Common Questions

Questions we get asked.

Do you clean around avionics safely?

Yes. Nothing is sprayed toward the panel or the avionics stack. Product goes onto the applicator first, and we keep moisture away from instrument faces, breakers and connectors entirely.

Can you clean acrylic windscreens without scratching them?

Yes, with acrylic-safe product and dedicated clean towels. The two things that ruin windscreens are ammonia based cleaners, which cause permanent crazing, and dirty towels, which scratch. We use neither.

Can you get an old smell out of the cabin?

Usually. We treat the source rather than masking it, which most often means carpet, cushions and any area that has been damp. If the source is a fuel or oil leak, that needs your mechanic first and we will tell you.

Will you condition leather that is already cracking?

We can clean and condition it and it will look better, but conditioning does not reverse cracks that are already through the finish. Conditioning is preventive. The value is in doing it before that stage.

Do you do interior only?

Yes. Interior-only scope is quoted on its own, and it is a common request before a sale or after a long period of the aircraft sitting.

START WITH THE INSIDE.

Tell us the aircraft type, how many seats, and what condition the interior is in. We will come back with a firm scope.
